(DailyAnswer.org) – Steve Buscemi suffered injuries in a violent assault in Manhattan, the actor’s publicist has confirmed.
Buscemi was attacked in central Manhattan in broad daylight shortly before noon. The assault marked another in a string of random assaults in the city. The 66-year-old actor’s publicist told reporters that he is alright grateful for the well wishes of his fans, as well as sad for anyone else who has been attacked while walking New York’s streets. Buscemi was taken to a hospital nearby and suffered swelling, bruising and bleeding in his left eye as a result of the attack.
In March Democratic New York Governor Kathy Hochul was criticized by conservatives for sending the National Guard into the city’s subway to assist the NYPD following a recent surge in violent crime. The move was seen as excessive and hypocritical by critics, who attacked the handling of destructive race riots following the death of George Floyd in police custody in 2020. The border crisis and New York’s status as a sanctuary city have seen migration linked to rises in violent crimes, as organized gangs reportedly recruit migrants from shelters and use them in bag-snatching operations.
Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams has even called for the city’s sanctuary status to be changed to allow local law enforcement to work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to better facilitate the arrest and deportation of migrants accused of violent offenses.
Buscemi’s attacker, who was captured in security camera footage, was initially unknown. Police described the suspect as a male “with dark complexion” who wore a blue T-shirt, a baseball hat, black pants and white sneakers at the time of the assault. Police have since identified the suspect as 50-year-old Clifton Williams
Buscemi’s Boardwalk Empire co-star Michael Stuhlbarg was also attacked in the city, seemingly at random, while out on a walk near Central Park. According to law enforcement, a 27-year-old man whom they referred to as “unhoused” threw a rock at the 55-year-old actor’s head. Stuhlbarg’s alleged attacker was arrested and faces harassment and second-degree assault charges.
