Armed Migrants with AR-15 Confront Police and Are Freed

(DailyAnswer.org) – Two young men, both suspected migrants, are back on the streets of New York City after clashing with police during an arrest last week. One of them had a loaded rifle in his possession, raising serious concerns about public safety.

On November 5, 20-year-old Abraham Sosa was spotted trespassing in a restricted area of a Bronx subway station. He was also caught urinating in the tunnel. When police approached him at the Kingsbridge station and asked for his ID, Sosa refused to comply. Officers then tried to arrest him, but he resisted, stiffening his arms to avoid being handcuffed.

The situation escalated when 20-year-old Christopher Mayren joined the altercation, trying to interfere. During the scuffle, Sosa’s backpack fell, and out came a loaded and defaced AR-15 rifle. Police also reported that Mayren kicked one officer’s body camera onto the subway tracks. Later, authorities discovered Mayren had stolen one of the officers’ cell phones.

Both men were arrested, but not before two officers sustained minor injuries. The officers were knocked to the ground and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Sosa now faces multiple charges, including criminal possession of a machine gun, carrying a defaced weapon, resisting arrest, and assaulting police officers. Additionally, he was hit with 25 counts of criminal possession of ammunition and several other charges. Mayren, on the other hand, was charged with obstruction, criminal mischief, and stealing property.

While Mayren was released without bail, Sosa was sent to Rikers Island but posted a $25,000 bond just a week later.

This incident isn’t isolated. Reports suggest both suspects are migrants, with one article claiming Mayren has ties to a Mexican drug cartel. However, due to legal restrictions, law enforcement can’t disclose their immigration status.

The clash highlights growing concerns about public safety in New York. A Bronx detective expressed frustration, pointing out the danger of someone with a loaded rifle living above a day care center. “Can it get worse than this?” they asked.

This case comes amid rising tensions over migrant-related crimes in the city. Earlier this year, a group of migrants was caught on video attacking officers in Times Square, drawing national outrage.
