(DailyAnswer.org) – Members of President Joe Biden’s family have blamed his poor performance in a debate with former President Donald Trump on his campaign advisers. Biden’s family joined him at the Camp David resort on June 30 to unite in support of the 81-year-old president. They urged him to stand his ground in the 2024 presidential election. Reports surfaced of relatives blasting the president’s advisers for how he was prepared for the debate.
Biden came across as considerably more tanned and more relaxed in his statements in the days following the debate, in which he had a raspy voice and struggled to finish some of his sentences. At first the poor performance was blamed on a cold, but days later Biden said it was due to jet lag.
First Lady Jill Biden and the president’s son Hunter were reportedly among the strongest voices urging him to stay in the race. Major Democratic donor John Morgan, who works as a lawyer in Florida, commented on X that Biden resembled a “corpse” during the debate, and slated senior adviser Anita Dunn for the embarrassing performance.
Another donor to the Biden campaign, Whitney Tilson, said he felt he was “deceived” following the TV debate with Trump. Tilson said it was a “waste of time and money” supporting Biden if the debate performance was any indicator of his viability as a presidential candidate.
Three sources aware of but not directly involved in the family’s discussions told reporters that Dunn, her husband Bob Bauer and former chief of staff Ron Klain were specifically blamed by the Biden family for the debate performance. Bauer is Biden’s legal adviser, and performed the role of Trump in debate rehearsals at Camp David.
The family members reportedly blamed the senior advisers for not preparing Biden sufficiently to attack Trump during the debate. They also claimed he had been overworked. Morgan likewise blamed the senior advisers, saying Dunn and Bauer had “fooled” Biden. He accused them of “political malpractice” and said they “need to go”.
