Biden Slammed for ‘Race Baiting’ Morehouse Speech

(DailyAnswer.org) – President Joe Biden has been accused of race baiting following a controversial commencement speech he gave at the historically black Morehouse College on May 19.

At the graduation ceremony the president discussed George Floyd, and told black graduates that democracy for them meant being “killed in the street”. He equated the start of their education with the death of George Floyd in police custody, suggesting that democracy does not work for black voters. The backlash to Biden’s comments comes as both Democrats and Republicans accuse each other of being racist; former President Donald Trump’s campaign highlighted Biden’s history of politically incorrect remarks after Biden criticized the former president’s comments about black people.

A New York resident, Lou Valentino, called the president a “race baiter” following his comments, and claimed Biden was seeking to “set back” black people rather than delivering results to African-American communities. Even moderate Republican and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley slated Biden for his past remarks about Black Americans while she was still running a campaign for presidency in January.

Such remarks include a claim in 1977 that desegregation in schools could turn the learning environment into a “jungle” for his children. As recently as 2007 he described former President Barack Obama as the first mainstream “articulate” and “clean” African-American. Students for Life president Kristan Hawkins called Biden’s race baiting comments in the Morehouse speech “disgusting”. Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton branded the president a “race hustler” promoting racial division and discrimination in a similar way to Black Lives Matter.

Some students and teachers expressed concerns that the president would use the commencement speech to try to win over black voters, and called on the university to cancel the event in April. The protest did not gain momentum, however, and the speech went ahead. Libre Initiative president Daniel Garza praised the U.S. as an imperfect nation whose democracy, free market and values have benefitted “countless” people. He attacked Biden for insulting black voters and painting all ethnic minorities as victims unable to compete.
