(DailyAnswer.org) – President Joe Biden once again reiterated his claims that former President Donald Trump poses a threat to democracy and US national security, a line of rhetoric used while he was still running for re-election.
Biden appeared on “CBS Sunday Morning” on Aug. 11 and reporter Robert Costa asked him how he wants to be remembered by history. The president said he wants to be remembered as someone who “proved democracy can work,” who got the country “out of a pandemic,” and who “produced” the “greatest economic recovery” in the nation’s history.”
Biden added that America has the “most powerful economy” but that there’s “more to do” even though he believes his administration “demonstrated” that the nation can be pulled back together.
Costa then asked about Trump. Biden replied, “Mark my words, if [Trump] wins this nomination” and then corrected himself to say “election,” and to “watch what happens.” Biden said a Trump victory would be dangerous and called him a “genuine danger” to the nation’s security.
Biden continued by saying the world is at “an inflection point,” a term he’s used in other recent remarks, and that the decisions made over the next few years will determine the “next six decades.” The president then said this is why he made his speech about the Supreme Court, which he said was “out of whack” and should have a term limit. Biden’s position on the court followed their presidential immunity ruling in favor of Trump.
The president accused “MAGA Republicans” of having “little regard” for the country’s “political institutions” which he said hold the country together and are “what democracy is about” and “who we are as a nation.”
Although Trump has fixed his aim now more specifically on Vice President Kamala Harris since Biden endorsed her as his replacement to be the Democratic nominee taking on the former president, he did not stop criticizing Biden in his speeches on the campaign trail. Trump continues to call Biden the “worst president in American history” and to remind voters that Harris was a major part of his administration’s failures on everything from the border to allowing men in women’s sports.
