Clinton Confident in Harris Winning Popular Vote Against Trump

(DailyAnswer.org) – Hillary Clinton recently shared her thoughts on the upcoming election, predicting that Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will win the popular vote this November. During an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Clinton, who won the popular vote in 2016 but lost the election to Donald Trump, expressed confidence in a Harris-Walz victory with the public. However, she also reminded everyone that winning the popular vote doesn’t necessarily guarantee the White House.

“I have no doubt that Harris and Walz will win the popular vote,” Clinton said. “But as we all know, the popular vote isn’t enough. You need 270 electoral votes to win the presidency.”

Clinton understands this situation firsthand. In 2016, she secured millions more votes than Trump but fell short in the Electoral College. Now, she suggests that Harris and Walz need to focus on winning key battleground states to avoid the same result.

Clinton’s remarks came as part of her media tour to promote her new book, Something Lost, Something Gained. Throughout the tour, she’s been open about the difficulties she faced as a female candidate. She noted that Harris faces similar challenges, particularly the so-called “double standard” women in politics often encounter.

When the topic of policy came up, Clinton defended Harris against criticism. “I had more policy than anyone in 2016,” she said, recalling her own campaign. “It was all on our website. We gave speeches. We even wrote a book about it.” However, she stressed that having strong policies doesn’t automatically translate to votes, saying, “At the end of the day, that’s not what makes or breaks a campaign, and the Harris team knows this.”

In a separate interview, Clinton pointed out how gender still plays a role in how female candidates like Harris are treated. “It’s a double standard,” Clinton remarked, “People are still coming to terms with the idea of voting for a woman to be president and commander in chief.”

Wrapping up her interview, Clinton also highlighted the significance of the upcoming election, calling it a battle between “freedom and oppression” and praising MSNBC for its coverage of the stakes involved.

Additionally, recent polling has shown Harris’s strength in key states. A new poll from Pennsylvania shows her gaining traction against former President Trump, underscoring the importance of battleground states in the 2024 election.
