(DailyAnswer.org) – The long-awaited “2020 2.0” debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump is just over a week away. As rematches between two former presidents go, it’s a rarity, but it has happened. The last time two former candidates (not two former presidents) squared off for a second time was the 1956 debate between Dwight D. Eisenhauer (R) and Adlai Stevenson (D).
CNN will host the event in Atlanta, and it will be moderated by Dana Bash and Jake Tapper, who both lean left. The moderators are supposed to be impartial, but Biden will have a “home court” advantage.
The two candidates will take the stage on June 27 and “go at it” for 90 minutes.
At times, the 2020 debate became raucous, with both candidates talking over one another. To prevent this, CNN has laid down some ground rules.
One significant change is that the candidate’s mics will only be live when it is their turn to speak. The audience at home might be able to see body language and hand gestures, or perhaps mouths moving, but they will not be able to hear what the other speaker is saying. Also, there will be no studio audience to clap and cheer for one answer and boo for another.
During the 90-minute battle, there will be two “time outs” (commercial breaks) during which neither candidate can consult with their camp.
The two presidential hopefuls will have bottled water and a pen and paper to take notes (but they may not bring notes with them.) They will not have iPads, laptops, earpieces, or props of any kind.
Perhaps to test virility and stamina, the two men will stand behind the podium for 90 minutes. A coin flip, like the start of the Super Bowl, will determine who stands on the left and who stands on the right. (Each camp has probably done the research to determine which position wins more debates.)
It is possible that there may be other candidates sharing the stage, but highly unlikely. If any other people should qualify, it would be Jill Stein, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Cornel West. To make it to the stage, they must garner 15% or better in at least four national polls. They would also have to be on the ballot in enough states to win 270 electoral votes. For instance, Kennedy is currently on ballots in six states, with a total of 89 electoral votes. He can’t win the presidency with that total, so the hosts think it is moot to have him on the stage. (Kennedy is doing better than Stein and West, so it is pretty much a foregone conclusion that Trump and Biden will face each other head-on.)
The debate will start at 9 pm.
