(DailyAnswer.org) – Conservative attorney George Conway has announced a donation of $929,600 to the 2024 election campaign of President Joe Biden. During an interview Conway called former President Donald Trump a “threat to democracy” and commented that the donation to the Democratic Party that would have once seemed “pure fantasy” to him was necessary due to the Republican Party turning into an unrecognizable “personality cult”.
Conway’s donation is the maximum amount that donors are legally allowed to contribute towards such a campaign. Conway claimed that even before January 6 Trump disregarded both the rule of law and the Constitution, and that he misused the rule of law for his own political purposes and to undermine the United States.
Conway, husband of White House adviser Kellyanne Conway and a persistent critic of the former president, referred to Trump as a “megalomaniacal moron” and argued that Americans cannot put up with him for another four years. Conway wrote in an op-ed in October 2019 that Trump is a “narcissist” whose ego prevents him from serving his country in the way that the Constitution requires him to. He argued that Trump was delusional, and that no other president had ever had such a poor grasp on reality. He quoted Trump’s former chief of staff John Kelly as referring to him as “unhinged”, and quipped that it did not require a mental health professional to conclude that something was wrong with Trump’s mental wellbeing.
Conway’s claims about Trump’s mental health may not be as widely shared as concerns about Biden’s age and mental wellbeing, however; a March 2024 poll found that approximately 6 in 10 Americans had concerns about whether the 81-year-old incumbent president would be mentally fit enough for another term in the White House.
Conway shared his views about the Republican Party as a whole in its current state, revealing that he voted Democrat for the first time because of Trump. The attorney branded the party’s hard right members such as Marjorie Taylor Greene as “anti-American”, and slated Greene and other Republicans for wanting to deny foreign aid to America’s allies such as Ukraine.
