Controversy on CNN Over Elite’s Role in Picking Kamala Harris

(DailyAnswer.org) – During a recent CNN panel, “Shark Tank” star Kevin O’Leary stirred up controversy by arguing that Vice President Kamala Harris was “chosen” by Democratic elites rather than going through a real nomination process. This comment sparked a heated debate among the panelists, who had gathered to discuss Harris’s lackluster performance in a CNN Town Hall.

O’Leary pointed to the 2016 election as another example of what he saw as the Democratic Party’s preference for controlling the candidate selection. Back then, he argued, Hillary Clinton was “chosen” over Senator Bernie Sanders, despite Sanders’ apparent popularity and strong support among voters. According to O’Leary, Sanders was sidelined, just as Harris had seemingly bypassed any real competition.

The tension escalated when O’Leary claimed that, about three months ago, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi encouraged President Joe Biden to step down. “Pelosi went to Biden and convinced him,” O’Leary said. Allegedly, Biden had questioned whether Harris was “the right person” to succeed him but ultimately agreed to Pelosi’s suggestion. However, O’Leary added that Biden could have insisted on a nomination process but chose not to. “I don’t know who they is—Obama, Pelosi—it doesn’t matter,” O’Leary concluded, referring to who might be behind these decisions.

As O’Leary tried to continue, other panelists challenged him, arguing it wasn’t true that Harris was simply “chosen.” CNN host Abby Phillip jumped in, countering that Clinton had, in fact, won the 2016 primary, whether or not some liked the way it was conducted. O’Leary then asked, “Did Kamala Harris win a primary?” The question hung in the air, with none of the CNN panelists directly responding.

Phillip reminded O’Leary that political parties aren’t required to hold primaries. “It’s not in the Constitution. Parties can pick nominees however they like, as long as they meet the legal deadlines.” She pointed out that the Democratic Party could decide to handpick a candidate right before an election if they chose to.

Another panelist chimed in, asking O’Leary if voters truly cared about how the Democrats select their nominee. “If you’re a Democrat, you sure as hell care today,” O’Leary replied, underscoring his belief that the party’s process was troubling for many Democrats.
