(DailyAnswer.org) – Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman warned in January 2024 that the large influx of migrants is threatening the American Dream. In the CNN interview, the Democrat was scrutinized for his positions on Israel and immigration to which he replied that he did not understand why support for Israel and wanting to control borders were controversial viewpoints. Attracting accusations that he is supporting genocide from Pro-Palestinian protesters outside his home this month, Fetterman responded to the chants and waving of Palestinian flags by standing on the roof of his apartment waving a large Israeli flag in defiance.
At a time when the White House faces ongoing criticism for its handling of both the Border Crisis and the Gaza conflict, the comments further highlight the divide over contentious issues within the Democratic Party as President Joe Biden suffers in the polls due to his policies and announces that he will shut down the Southern border when it is “overwhelmed”. On his first day of office, Biden signed more executive orders relating to immigration than those relating to any other topic, and there have been record numbers of crossings over the border under his regime. Though Biden has continued to declare himself a Zionist, he has faced increasing pressure from the left to take a tougher stance on the IDF’s handling of the war in Gaza and warned that the civilian death toll is damaging the country’s global reputation.
Fetterman, still recovering from the effects of a nearly fatal stroke, is battling depression and commented at the end of 2023 on the impact of social media on his mental health. He was previously checked into Walter Reed Medical Center for six weeks in February 2023 for treatment. In September 2023 he spoke out during a committee meeting about his health issues and occasional difficulty with processing. He criticized both the level of bullying he was experiencing and the comments by Republicans on his choice of clothing. No stranger to controversy on matters of race, Fetterman pulled a shotgun on a black jogger in 2013 when he was mayor of the city of Braddock. Fetterman countered the criticisms of his comments on immigration by saying that it is possible to be pro-immigration and in support of effective border control, emphasizing that his pro-immigration stance has been used as ammunition by the Republicans and that his wife’s family are immigrants.
