David died peacefully at his home in White Pine, Tennessee, on Friday, November 15, 2024. The cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.
David, born on March 30, 1942, was one of 12 children born to Robert Lee and Avie Lee Owens Parton. The Parton family grew up in Sevier County, Tennessee, and lived modestly, focusing on faith, family, and music—a foundation that shaped Dolly’s legendary career.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kay Parton, as well as two daughters, Donna and Dena. David also raised a nephew, Lucas, as his own and leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his parents, three of his brothers—Larry, Floyd, and Randy—and his infant son, Donnie. The Parton family has faced several losses in recent years, including Randy’s passing in 2021 after a battle with cancer at age 67 and Floyd’s death in 2018 at 61.
Dolly, 78, has often spoken about the strength and closeness of her family, rooted in faith and love. Though David led a quiet life, his contributions to his family and community will not be forgotten. The Parton family remains in the hearts of fans as they navigate this difficult time.
