Escaped Criminal Fakes Injury, Caught by K-9 in Woods

(DailyAnswer.org) – A 29-year-old man attempted to escape from a Florida prison after he faked an injury to get relocated to a hospital. Anthony Romine was dragged from thick foliage by a police dog while screaming and kicking on Sunday, July 28. He was on the lam for just seven hours before being recaptured.

Romine was nabbed near a gas station in Flagler County, Florida after being tracked by police operating on tips from locals. Video of the bust shows Romine screaming and yelling for relief as the K9 attempted to pull him out from beneath some bushes in a wooded area behind the gas station.

Police body camera footage showed the dog dragging Romine by his arm. Police told him to cooperate and to stop attempting to bite the K9. Romine continuously asked police to remove the dog while acknowledging his capture. Romine was seen crying while a deputy inquired if he genuinely believed his escape attempt would succeed.

Police reported multiple leads from locals about Romine; he was identified easily due to his distinct tattoos.

Romine was originally arrested on breaking a pre-trial release agreement, petty theft, and counterfeiting. He’ll now face additional charges including felony escape. Investigators realized that he faked an injury after escaping from a medical facility where he was sent for treatment after alleging a fall.

Police believe he was attempting to return to Ohio, his home state, and said they were working nonstop until his capture. Flager County Sheriff Rick Staly congratulated the officers involved and thanked them for all their hard work. He also thanked the community for reporting sightings of the suspect which gave police the tips they needed to nab him.

He’ll face additional charges including battery of an officer and felonious escape. Staly said they were continuing to investigate his escape to determine precisely how Romine was able to avoid detection and leave the facility.
