Fact Check Reveals Biden Incorrect About Border Patrol Support

(DailyAnswer.org) – President Joe Biden has been called out by conservatives for falsely claiming that he has been endorsed by “Border Patrolmen” for president in the 2024 election. A National Border Patrol Council official, speaking on behalf of border patrol agents, declared that the union had not endorsed and never would endorse the incumbent president.

During the anticipated one-on-one debate with former President Donald Trump on June 27, Biden claimed that the border patrol agents endorsed him and his position. Not only was the claim untrue, but the Border Patrol Council in fact endorsed Trump in the 2020 presidential election. The union promptly posted on X after the debate to correct the Democrat.

It is unclear whether the 81-year-old president was referring to the union’s reluctant endorsement of the bipartisan immigration reform bill, which was presented by the Senate and the White House in February. The Border Patrol Council stated that the bill was “not perfect”, but accepted that it was better than doing nothing about the border crisis.

The group represents roughly 18,000 agents and support personnel working in Border Patrol, and 90% of eligible agents are members of the union. In its endorsement of Trump in 2020, the Border Patrol Council stated that Biden was spouting mere rhetoric whereas Trump has proven accomplishments.

Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd raised his and the group’s profile due to his closeness to and endorsement of the former president. In 2019 he supported Trump and his insistence that the southern border crisis warranted the construction of a wall to help prevent a humanitarian crisis.

Judd’s endorsement from Trump attracted some criticism. Doris Meissner, who was the US Immigration and Naturalization Service commissioner under former President Bill Clinton, said it was “striking” to see Judd in the room with Trump. Doris argued that Trump should have instead met with Department of Homeland Security officials responsible for carrying out the White House’s immigration policies. She claimed it was not how the government was “supposed to run”.

As designated sanctuary cities have struggled to deal with the humanitarian crisis predicted by Trump, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Biden have both been blasted for the handling of the border crisis, which they have blamed on a “broken system”. They have also been condemned by conservatives and the families of victims murdered by illegal immigrants for allowing violent criminals and gang members to cross the border at an unprecedented rate.
