(DailyAnswer.org) – A father charged with fatally poisoning his wife in 2018 using eye drops now faces new accusations of trying to use the same method to kill his daughter, alongside trying to stage a kidnapping against himself and other crimes.
According to court documents, 39-year-old Joshua Lee Hunsucker tried to use the toxic substance found in eyedrops to poison his daughter in February 2023. The little girl was 10 at the time. The child ended up hospitalized in what was reportedly a plot by Hunsucker to implicate the parents of his wife, Stacy Hunsucker, in her death in September 2018.
Five years before the attempted poisoning of his daughter, Hunsucker was accused of killing his 32-year-old wife by using tetrahydrozoline, a chemical found in eye drops. Hunsucker allegedly administered the drops over an extended period and then had Stacy cremated quickly to try and cover up her cause of death and then filed for a life insurance policy of $250,000. When police became suspicious, they were able to locate an existing vial of Stacy’s blood collected because she was an organ donor and tests revealed the presence of tetrahydrozoline.
In December 2019, Hansucker was arrested on charges of first-degree murder but released on bond pending a trial, until being hauled back into court on the new allegations. From the beginning, he tried to pin the murder on John and Susie Robinson, the parents of Stacy, and even accused them of kidnapping him and assaulting him.
Hunsucker was indicted on Monday, Aug. 5, in Gaston County, North Carolina, for intimidation of a witness and obstruction of justice, receiving four counts each. The indictment accuses Hunsucker of engaging in a “pattern of harassment” toward case witnesses and trying to implicate others by poisoning his daughter. He is also accused of secretly recording his wife’s parents, sending them packages with threats to stop the case, and even driving by their home.
Special Prosecutor R. Jordan Green and District Attorney Travis Page filed a request to have Hunsucker’s bond revoked, claiming he previously told multiple former co-workers that he would use eye drops if he ever decided to kill someone. The prosecutors argued that Hunsucker’s “dangerous actions will continue to escalate” and that he should remain behind bars until the murder trial is complete.
