Former Officer Wanted For The Murder of Two And Abducting His Son

(DailyAnswer.org) – Washington authorities launched a manhunt for a former officer who was accused of murdering both his ex-wife and teenage girlfriend before abducting the son he had with the 17-year-old.

According to the West Richland Police Department Huizar, 39, shot ex-wife Amber Marie Rodriguez in front of the William Wiley Elementary School in West Richland at roughly 3:30 P.M. on April 22. Police then found the body of his deceased girlfriend later that day during a search of the suspect’s residence on South Highlands Boulevard. The former school resource officer later died during a standoff with police in Oregon, and the son was found safe.

Washington State Patrol declared an Amber Alert for 1-year-old Roman Huizar as they searched for a silver 2009 Toyota Corolla that the suspect was driving while on the run with his son. After reaching speeds of 100mph when trying to outrun Oregon state police, Huizar crashed into a highway median. He exchanged gunfire with officers then drove off before colliding with a semi-truck further down the interstate.

At this point, Huizar reportedly shot himself in front of his son and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Benton County Coroner conducted autopsies on both victims that were concluded on April 26. County Coroner Bill Leach revealed that the 17-year-old Angelica Santos was stabbed to death. How long she was left inside Huizar’s home and whether she was stabbed before or after Rodriguez was shot is not known.

Huizar approached and shot his ex-wife before firing several more rounds after she fell to the ground. Details about Huizar’s relationship with Santos are still lacking; he reportedly first met the minor during his work as a school resource officer at Washington Middle School when she was 12. Huizar was interviewed earlier in 2024 in a separate rape investigation, and told investigators that Santos was in a relationship with him by the age of 15 resulting in the birth of the couple’s son.

Rodriguez recently requested a custody hearing with the aim of denying her ex-husband access to their two children. Huizar faced pending charges of third-degree child rape, after investigators deducted that Santos was a minor when she became pregnant, and second-degree rape for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old. A GoFundMe page was set up to raise money to help cover the costs of Santos’ funeral.
