(DailyAnswer.org) – Four illegal immigrants were arrested on February 17 for robbing and strangling a man on a train. Chicago police identified the four migrants from Venezuela as Carlos Carreno-Carreno, 20; Fernando Loyo-Rodriguez, 22; Yonnier Guasamucare Garcia, 18; and Wilker Gutierrez Sierra, 21. The four reportedly beat, strangled, and robbed the 48-year-old man on a CTA Pink Line train just south of Kostner Avenue station at around 4:45 P.M. The victim lost consciousness during the attack and has since recovered. The suspects were scheduled to stand before an attention hearing.
Chicago Police Department officers arrested the suspects at the next station and reported that they had been staying at the Standard Club migrant shelter. In 2023, it was reported that the shuttered club was housing 761 asylum seekers and that the number could soon rise to 1,200. The club is one of several locations being used to temporarily house migrants in the city. Chicago is not only seeing the impact of the southern border crisis but the impact of illegal immigration across the northern border with Canada as well; an Indian man was arrested and scheduled to appear at a hearing on February 28 in connection with the smuggling of a Gujarati family who froze to death on the journey across the border. As the Chicago suburbs also experience surges in burglaries, the city is experiencing an 11,000% increase in arrests of migrants in connection with crimes since 2021.
The City of Chicago has since 2022 taken in 35,000 migrants bussed up to the Democrat-controlled city from the southern border. At the expense of taxpayers, 13,000 have been housed in temporary shelters. The Chicago Police Department has not confirmed the legal status or the legal address of the four suspects arrested. The men are charged with robbery and aggravated battery/strangulation. The Cook County Board President and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker requested $250 million from lawmakers to help deal with the crisis after the city spent more than double on handling the issue. The funding was agreed in a “joint effort” between state, city, and county officials.
