(DailyAnswer.org) – The son of actor Gary Sinise has passed away at the age of 33 from a rare form of cancer. McCanna “Mac” Anthony Sinise died on January 5 from Chordoma, which affects the spine.
Mac was diagnosed with the disease shortly after the actor’s wife Moira was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in Summer 2018. After receiving spinal surgery in 2018 and 2019, a follow-up scan in May 2019 found that the cancer had returned and was spreading. Mac worked at his father’s veteran’s service and charity, the Gary Sinise Foundation, and had to step down from his role due to the illness that disabled him more and more as it progressed.
Gary revealed that the last project he worked on with his son for the foundation was a podcast interview. Mac was a student of the Thorton School of Music at the University of Southern California. As his illness progressed, he focused more on music and started an unfinished project, later dubbed Arctic Circles, inspired by the winter scenery he saw from his hospital bed. Mac was determined to finish the project before he finally succumbed to the cancer.
Composer Oliver Schnee, a friend of Mac’s from USC, worked with him to add the final touches before Mac paid for studio time. Members of his father’s project, Lt. Dan Band, also contributed to finishing the work. Gary explained that the cancer had paralyzed his son from the waist down but that he had minimal use of his right arm and the fingers of his left hand. Marc used a stylus fixed to his hand to select musical notes.
A friend of the actor commented that he had remained strong after his son’s death, and several actors took to social media to send their love and support. Gary, 68, wrote that he and Moira were heartbroken and managing as well as they could and that their hearts went out to those who had experienced the same loss. He expressed his admiration for Mac’s “uphill battle” against a cancer that had no cure. Mac’s completed record, “Resurrection & Revival,” was released the week he died.
