GOP Heckler Yells At Joe Biden: Tell Hunter To Pay His Taxes

(DailyAnswer.org) – Republican Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene heckled President Joe Biden during his State of the Union Address, shouting at the president to tell his son Hunter to pay his taxes.

When Greene interrupted Biden’s speech, the president said it was important for people to pay their “fair share” in taxes and that this is what makes the country great. Hunter Biden was indicted in late 2023 on nine charges – three felonies and six misdemeanors – relating to tax evasion and tax fraud. These are in addition to charges that Hunter broke laws against drug users having firearms in 2018.

According to special counsel David Weiss, Hunter spent several millions of dollars on his lavish lifestyle rather than paying his taxes. Weiss stated that 53-year-old Hunter could spend a maximum of 17 years in prison if convicted. Beverly Moran, a tax law expert at Vanderbilt University, described the charges as rare. Moran likened the chances of Americans being criminally prosecuted for tax fraud to the chances of them winning the lottery. She stated, however, that though many go through their lives without audits or prosecution, the majority of prosecutions result in conviction.

The indictment claims that Hunter willfully neglected to pay taxes on time in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 despite having ample access to funds. Greene previously heckled Biden at the 2023 State of the Union Address, calling him a liar. She later complained after the 2023 address that he was either mumbling through his speech or shouting through applause. She claimed that his comments on the border crisis and the opioid epidemic made no sense due to the Biden administration’s failures in securing the border.

The 81-year-old president has unveiled a $7.3 trillion budget for the election year that includes $5.5 trillion in tax increases. The budget, branded “reckless” by critics, focuses on taxing the wealthy and corporations while also spending $7.3 trillion on defense. The Office of Management and Budget estimates that due to the plan, national debt would skyrocket to $45.1 trillion, or 105.6% of Gross Domestic Product, by 2034.
