Harris Campaign Faces Doubts as Americans Reconsider National Path

(DailyAnswer.org) – CNN’s senior data reporter Harry Enten recently shared some troubling news for Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party. According to Enten, the odds are stacked against Harris winning the presidency in 2024. The reason? Most Americans don’t think the country is headed in the right direction.

In a recent poll, only 28% of Americans said they believe the U.S. is on the “right track.” Enten pointed out that when the party in power loses elections, the average percentage of people who think things are going well is usually around 25%. With Harris running as the likely Democratic candidate, the current 28% number doesn’t look promising.

“You’re in the danger zone when you’re looking at numbers like these,” Enten explained. He made it clear that when fewer people think the country is headed in the right direction, it’s a bad sign for the party in power. Historically, this sort of pessimism tends to translate into losses at the ballot box.

Enten also compared the current polling numbers to what we’ve seen in past elections. When the party in the White House wins again, an average of 42% of Americans typically believe the country is on the right track. Enten emphasized that the current 28% is far below that mark. This 28% looks a lot more like the losing side’s numbers, not a winning side, he said.

During the discussion, Enten explained to CNN’s John Berman that the lowest percentage of Americans who thought the country was on the right track when an incumbent won was 39%. That happened in 1996 when Bill Clinton won re-election. But even then, the number was still much higher than the 28% we’re seeing now.

In short, Enten concluded, “There’s no historical precedent for the White House party winning when numbers like these are this low. It would be unprecedented for Harris to win with just 28% of the country feeling good about the direction we’re headed.

With such low confidence in the country’s direction, the Democrats have a tough road ahead.
