Harris Turns Down Fox News Debate with Trump

(DailyAnswer.org) – Vice President Kamala Harris is refusing to debate Donald Trump on Fox News, preferring instead the much more Democrat-friendly ABC News and a later date. Harris wants to have the debate on September 10 and maintains that was the plan for the previous debate for Trump versus Joe Biden.

Trump’s campaign has highlighted the fact that making plans at this point seems a little bit premature given Harris hasn’t been selected as the final candidate yet, and that it’s entirely possible she’s swapped out for someone else. Harris campaign communications director Michael Tyler suggested Trump is scared and that he already committed to the 10th.

Tyler added that Harris will use the time slot to talk to audiences whether or not Trump appears. Trump challenged Harris to debate on Fox News on September 4, saying that the previous arrangement was terminated when “Sleep Joe Biden” pulled out. Trump wants the debate to feature “a full arena audience,” previously his debate against Biden was in an empty room with no audience, a stunning break from tradition. Many posited that the lack of an audience was an advantage for Biden.

Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung said the previously scheduled second debate between Biden and Trump was scuttled on July 25, after Biden withdrew from the contest. He highlighted at the time that it was impossible to make plans that far in advance as the Democrats could still change their mind on who their candidate will be.

While Fox News has been generally considered more conservative than other corporate outlets, it hasn’t been exceptionally pro-Trump since former Speaker Paul Ryan became a board member. Ryan was known for opposing Trump’s legislative agenda during his first term and has been a major anti-Trump Republican voice, earning him an exit from the political arena and consternation from MAGA Republicans.
