Though heartfelt, the answer was criticized as being overly vague and irrelevant to the question at hand.
Greg Price, a digital strategist, was one of the first to comment. He posted on X, calling the interview “an absolute train wreck.” Other critics joined in, claiming that Harris failed to show she was capable of addressing real economic issues. They felt that her personal anecdotes didn’t substitute for concrete plans or policies.
The viral moment came when Taff asked her again what specific steps she would take to reduce costs. Instead of diving right into her policies, Harris continued discussing her background. She mentioned people in her neighborhood taking pride in their homes and lawns, a detail that didn’t sit well with her critics. Finally, after much discussion, she highlighted her proposal to offer new businesses a $50,000 tax deduction and provide first-time home buyers with $25,000 in down payment assistance.
However, this was too little too late for some viewers. Ryan Saavedra, a reporter for the Daily Wire, described the interview as “staggering,” noting how unprepared and nervous Harris seemed. Others pointed out that Harris had used the same story about growing up in a middle-class family during her debate with former President Trump, suggesting she was stuck repeating talking points.
The backlash didn’t end there. Author Tim Murtaugh noted how no prominent Democrats seemed to be defending Harris after the interview. The Trump War Room account even mocked her, stating that she repeated the same story without offering a real plan for America.
The Harris campaign has yet to respond to the flood of criticism.
