(DailyAnswer.org) – Bernie Marcus, founder of Home Depot, called on the Republican party to support former President Donald Trump in his 2024 presidential election campaign. The 94-year-old said that doing anything less and not stepping up would spell disaster for the future of American democracy.
Marcus stated that in his many years on this earth, he was never so dismayed as he has been living under President Joe Biden’s government. He slated the 81-year-old incumbent president for using federal authority with “contempt for government” rather than with the consent of the people as envisioned by the Founding Fathers.
Marcus endorsed Trump in November 2023, saying that the former president’s “brash style” should not detract from his “otherwise excellent” first term in the White House. In November, Marcus stated that he wanted to get out of politics and was not happy that Trump was leading the primary race. He expressed his admiration for both Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis.
Though stressing that he did not wish to be one of Trump’s most prominent backers, the mega-donor to the Republicans said he would still fund Trump’s campaign if the former president were convicted in any of his four legal cases. Marcus called the charges “trumped up” and claimed to have spoken to Trump personally about his brash and “abusive” comments. He suggested that these personal attacks rub some people up the wrong way when Trump should be focusing on addressing his policies. Marcus, a known philanthropist who co-founded the Job Creators Network, highlighted in his opinion piece in March the inherent failures of the Biden administration. He attacked legacy media outlets for failing to challenge the incumbent president.
Marcus ultimately stressed that the world views Trump as a strong leader whose policies embody the strength of both the former president and his country. He noted that Trump did not enter any new foreign conflicts during his presidency and called it “essential” that foreign powers fear the U. S. president. Marcus added that the country was worth saving and that the way to achieve this was for Republicans to unite in support of Trump and back him fully in his 2024 campaign.
