(DailyAnswer.org) – A homeowner in California defended his home from intruders and fired a gun at the suspects on June 8, according to police. At least two suspects broke into the man’s home in the Valley Village neighborhood of San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, at roughly 3 p.m. before the homeowner opened fire with a semi-automatic handgun. One of the suspects was struck twice by the gunfire and another suspect fled the scene.
The homeowner was inside the property when the suspects attempted to burglarize the home, according to Los Angeles Police Department Captain Kelly Muniz. The injured suspect found inside the property by police was still breathing and suffering from a gunshot wound. The intruder was taken to a hospital to receive treatment.
Other reports surfaced of three suspects in the incident, including the injured individual. Police aided by K9 units are searching the area for the remaining suspects. Authorities have stated that the suspects most likely chose the target of the botched burglary at random. Police told local residents to lock their doors and a nearby church and school were placed on lockdown.
The injured suspect, who is an unidentified 25-year-old, is in critical condition. Police are searching for an African American suspect in his 20s who fled the scene. According to Muniz, the homeowner was also taken to hospital. She could not clarify whether the homeowner was injured in the incident, stating that it was unclear if there had been an altercation before the suspect was shot and his accomplices fled the scene.
Police responded to reports of a “hot prowl” by four home invaders at a residence in Granada Hills, Los Angeles, in December 2023. One of the suspects reportedly threatened the homeowner with a gun while a grandmother and child were in the house, resulting in the homeowner shooting and killing one of the intruders. Another suspect was believed to have been injured due to a trail of blood left behind at the scene.
Another home invader was shot in Newport Beach, California, in April 2024. There has been an increase in burglaries through Los Angeles, according to Muniz.
