(DailyAnswer.org) – U.S. officials have warned several former Trump administration national security leaders that Iran’s threats against them are real and likely won’t go away as long as the Islamic regime stays in power. These threats stem from Iran’s desire for revenge after a U.S. drone strike killed Qassem Soleimani in January 2020. Soleimani, who led Iran’s Quds Force, was a key figure in Iran’s military and was seen as the second most powerful man in the country, behind only Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. For Khamenei, Soleimani was almost like a son.
A report from Politico revealed that the threats are more widespread than previously thought. Matt Olsen, the assistant attorney general for national security, said that Iran is “determined to seek retaliation” for Soleimani’s death.
The threat to former President Donald Trump is especially alarming. Trump, known for his love of golf, hasn’t played in a month because officials cannot adequately secure golf courses to protect him. His motorcade patterns now shift to avoid predictable routes, and he travels on unmarked planes, requesting military assistance to bolster his safety.
The Biden-Harris administration faces pressure to expand security for those under threat. Some former officials have incurred steep personal expenses for protection, and a senior official described the situation as unprecedented in U.S. history. Iran has reportedly hired criminals and cartels to help execute these plots, and seven former officials connected to the Soleimani operation now receive round-the-clock government protection, including Mark Esper and Mike Pompeo. Even individuals no longer in government, such as John Bolton, have been targeted. One significant incident involved Robert O’Brien being rushed to safety in Paris following a credible threat from Iranian operatives.
Despite these precautions, Iran shows no signs of halting its efforts. U.S. officials recently issued a stern warning urging the Iranian regime to stop plotting against Trump and other former officials.
