(DailyAnswer.org) – Jay Leno, the former host of “The Tonight Show,” has a knack for bouncing back—quite literally. The 74-year-old comedian recently opened up about his latest brush with misfortune, showing off bruises, a broken wrist, and an eye patch in an interview with Inside Edition. The story behind the injuries? A dramatic fall down a hill.
“I’m a little beat up,” Leno admitted with his trademark humor. He explained that he fell 60 feet while heading to dinner before a stand-up gig in Pittsburgh. “Boom, boom, boom, boom,” he said, describing the tumble. Along the way, he hit several rocks, which left him black and blue, injured his wrist, and even cost him a fingernail.
One rock struck his eye, necessitating the patch. Despite the injuries, Leno assured the interviewer that his eyesight would recover. “It’ll be fine. I’m not worried about it,” he said.
Remarkably, the accident didn’t slow him down. Just three hours later, Leno was back on stage performing his scheduled show. By the weekend, he was entertaining another crowd in Beverly Hills.
This is hardly the first time Leno has faced physical adversity. Earlier this year, he had a motorcycle accident that left him with broken bones. Before that, in 2022, he endured severe burns while working on one of his vintage cars. A gas leak sprayed fuel over his face and hands, which ignited after a spark. Quick action from a nearby friend saved him, and Leno underwent extensive treatments, including skin grafts.
Despite these harrowing experiences, Leno maintains an optimistic outlook. Speaking in May, he reflected on his streak of near-disasters with characteristic wit. “First of all, they’re accidents. If they were deliberate, I’d be complaining,” he joked.
He continued, “Even though the accidents weren’t fun, I was still lucky. I didn’t lose an eye, and I’m not horribly disfigured—just regular disfigured.” Leno also noted that Hollywood focuses on looks, not feelings. “I still have a broken collarbone, two broken ribs, and cracked kneecaps, but I’m getting around.”
Through it all, Leno says he has plenty to be grateful for, proving that resilience—and a sense of humor—can go a long way.
