(DailyAnswer.org) – First Lady Jill Biden made an appearance at Hunter Biden’s gun trial in Delaware on its first day on June 3. The recovering addict has had a strained relationship with his stepmother in the past. In 2018 he sent Hallie Biden, Beau Biden’s widow with whom he was in a romantic relationship at the time, a rant about Jill in which he called her a “selfish silly entitled c**t”. The First Lady later had her stepson’s artwork on display in her office at the White House.
Jury selection began on the trial’s first day, and the trial is set to last roughly a fortnight. The president has distanced himself from the trial and is not expected to attend, but has said he is proud of his son for recovering from his addiction. Ashley Biden, Hunter’s sister, and his second wife, Melissa Cohen Biden, also attended the trial.
In 2023 Republican Special Counsel David Weiss charged the president’s son with three counts: one of false statement relating to the purchase of a firearm, another of possession of a firearm by an unlawful user or person addicted to a controlled substance, and a third count of false statement relating to information given to a licensed firearms dealer.
The prosecution has argued that Biden was a habitual user of crack cocaine when he purchased the firearm, and that he lied on his application about his addiction. Hunter’s first wife, Kathleen Buhle, and Hallie Biden are testifying as prosecution witnesses. Buhle, who was married to the president’s son from 1993 to 2017, recalled searching Hunter’s car for drugs. She stated that Hunter was reluctant to enter a rehabilitation facility.
The federal prosecutor revealed to the jury that the president’s son introduced Hallie to crack cocaine. She is expected to testify against her former partner on June 6. On the trial’s second day the court heard from FBI special agent Erika Jensen, the government’s first witness. Jensen confirmed the authenticity of Hunter’s laptop that contained evidence relating to his drug use and gun purchase.
Biden faces a separate indictment for alleged tax evasion, and Republicans have long used Hunter’s links with Patrick Ho and Ye Jianming of CEFC to suggest that the Biden family is corrupt and linked to foreign influence-peddling. Ho was arrested and Jianming was detained for questioning in connection with bribes of Chad’s president and Uganda’s foreign minister.
