Judge Rules Fani Willis Can Remain on Trump Case if She Fires Ex-Lover

(DailyAnswer.org) – Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee has ruled that County Prosecutor Fani Willis can remain on the election interference case against Donald Trump if her former lover and special prosecutor Nathan Wade walks away from it.

McAfee determined that the couple’s romantic relationship had not produced severe enough conflict that Willis should be forced from the case, but stated that it had created an “appearance of impropriety” and that either Willis and her team or Wade should step away from the investigation into Trump.

Wade promptly handed in his resignation. In his resignation letter, Wade did not admit that he or Willis had done anything wrong but stressed that he was removing himself from the case in the interests of democracy and the American public. He stressed the need to proceed with the case as quickly as possible.

Willis lashed out in her testimony against misconduct allegations regarding her romantic relationship with Wade in February 2024. Willis said that it was those who allegedly interfered with the 2020 election who were on trial, not her, before being cautioned by McAfee for interrupting questions. She, like Wade, denied that they had a romantic relationship before the case began, calling it a lie, but admitted that they met at a conference in 2019 before Wade was appointed to the case in 2021.

McAfee commented on March 15 that Willis was unprofessional in her fiery testimony and that she had made a “tremendous” error in judgment in pursuing her affair with Wade so openly. Though the judge dismissed demands by Trump and his team that Willis be disqualified from the case for compromising the trial, he ruled that one of the two would have to leave due to the image of impropriety resulting from the affair.

McAfee warned that he may issue a gag order to Willis’ office to restrict political commentary. He stated that though Willis’ conduct was legally improper, it had not prevented the defendants from having a fair trial and was not severe enough to warrant her disqualification. McAfee wrote that financial gain was not a motivating factor in the decision to charge Trump, but acknowledged that the exchange of money between the couple was “unusual,” if not unbelievable.
