Kinzinger Won’t Commit to Backing Trump in 2024

(DailyAnswer.org) – Former republican Adam Kinziger has said he will not back Donald Trump in the 2024 election and that he would vote for President Joe Biden instead “in a heartbeat”. The outspoken critic and former lawmaker who left office after serving on the January 6th committee has claimed that a vote for Biden would be the only vote for democracy, and that Trump only plays the victim and does not respect the country’s constitution. Kinziger has stated that he will not aggressively campaign for the Democrats, however, and he hopes Republican candidate Nikki Haley outperforms Trump in New Hampshire.

In December 2023 Kinziger slated supporters of Trump, arguing that they do not understand their religion and that Trump is not a man of God. Trump released his own festive statement that attacked Biden and Jack Smith in particular, wishing that his rivals governing the country “rot in hell”. As far back as 2016 during his time as congressman Kinziger expressed his deep reservations about Trump, stating that he could not back a president who went against his political principles. He went on to stress his concern about what he described as a hypocritical stance on Russia, namely Trump’s criticism of Hillary Clinton’s efforts to improve diplomatic relations with Russia while displaying his personal admiration for Vladimir Putin.

While on the January 6th committee, Kinziger stressed the need for election results to be respected if Americans are to have faith in the democratic system. Having received death threats at his office, he did not run for re-election, instead choosing to form Country First, a political action committee focused on supporting and recruiting candidates from both parties who would not subvert election results. Trump is currently leading in popularity according to the January 2024 ABC/Ipsos poll as Biden’s popularity continues to decline, with concerns about his age, economic policies and the Border Crisis being common causes for concern among voters. More than 70 percent of Republican voters would be happy with Trump in the White House judging by the poll.
