(DailyAnswer.org) – Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed into law a bill that prohibits the sale of lab-grown meat to help protect the agriculture industry.
DeSantis stated at a press conference that the new bill differs from past legislation he has signed to support the industry by aiming to prevent “acts of man” from harming ranchers’ livelihoods. The governor credited the “ideological agenda” of President Joe Biden’s administration with blaming ranchers for climate change. DeSantis highlighted Biden’s plan to phase out internal combustion engines on vehicles. He also pointed out the hypocrisy of the Democrats lecturing Americans about global warming while using private jets to fly to World Economic Forum conferences at Davos, Switzerland.
DeSantis slated the “elites” for living their own lives as they please while imposing harsh restrictions for everyday Americans. In a post on X, the governor said he was proud to sign Senate Bill 1084 and declared that Florida was saying “no” to a diet consisting of bugs and meat from petri dishes forced on Americans by the “global elites”. Plans to ban the sale of lab-grown meat were announced in 2023.
Republican State Representative Tyler Sirois called lab-grown meat an “affront to nature” and said the legislation would make selling the “cultivated” meat a criminal offense in the state. The bill even has the support of some Democrats, such as Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, who wrote on X that it “pained” him to agree with DeSantis but that he would never feed the “slop” to his children. Fetterman declared that he supported America’s farmers and the ban. DeSantis pointed out that the push to normalize the consumption of insect protein in other states had also failed to gain traction.
DeSantis stressed the need to fend off threats to the agricultural industry before they are allowed to come into effect. He argued that as beef is more desirable than insect protein or lab-grown meat, the end goal of the World Economic Forum is to phase out the farming of livestock by ensuring that a lab-grown alternative is available. He compared the Biden administration to the People’s Republic of China, adding that he had also battled against a proposed Central Bank Digital Currency similar to that used in China that has raised concerns that people could be denied financial services over their political views.
