(DailyAnswer.org) – Lara Trump has announced that she will step down from her role as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), fueling speculation about a possible Senate run in Florida. Her decision comes amidst political shifts sparked by President-elect Donald Trump’s choice of Republican Senator Marco Rubio to serve as Secretary of State in the upcoming administration amidst political shifts.
Lara was elected as RNC co-chair alongside Michael Whatley earlier this year, replacing longtime chair Ronna McDaniel. Since then, she has focused on breaking fundraising records, enhancing election integrity efforts, and boosting voter turnout among less active voters. “We accomplished all three,” Lara said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “The job I came to do is now complete, and I intend to formally step down at our next meeting” breaking fundraising records.
Her departure aligns with Rubio’s likely confirmation as Secretary of State, which would leave his Senate seat vacant. Under Florida law, Governor Ron DeSantis will appoint a temporary replacement to serve through 2026, with a special election planned for 2028. Lara has confirmed she is considering a run for the seat. Speaking to the Associated Press, she said she would “100% consider” the opportunity, though she acknowledged the need for more information before making a final decision. “If this is real for me, I want to make sure I’m fully informed,” she added 100% consider.
Florida faces several significant vacancies in its congressional delegation. Along with Rubio, Florida Republican Representative Mike Waltz and former Representative Matt Gaetz are leaving their positions to join the new administration. Gaetz, originally tapped for Attorney General, resigned from the House but later withdrew from the role. Waltz, nominated as National Security Adviser, has announced he will resign on January 20, the day of Trump’s inauguration.
This political reshuffling leaves Florida in an unusual position, with three open seats and a series of high-stakes appointments ahead. If Lara Trump does decide to run, it would mark another chapter in the Trump family’s growing influence on Republican politics.
