Man Injured in Machete Attack at Tourist Spot

(DailyAnswer.org) – A man was injured in a machete attack in Times Square, New York City, at roughly 1 P.M. on May 30.

In the attack at West 45th and Broadway, the unidentified victim was stabbed in both legs. The man is reportedly in a stable condition in hospital and three suspects fled the scene, according to police. A spokesperson for the NYPD told reporters that three suspects were later apprehended by police and taken into custody for questioning. The circumstances that led to the stabbing remain unclear.

The incident is currently under investigation, and the names of the suspects have not been released. Though the motive behind the attack is not yet known, it is believed by authorities that all involved in the incident knew each other. According to law enforcement, the incident was linked to a group trying to sell unsuspecting tourists compact discs in a scamming operation. The three suspects, who are from the Bronx and Brooklyn and in their 20s and 40s, have been charged over the attack on the 32-year-old man.

One individual is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, and all three are charged with obstructing a governmental administration and reckless endangerment.

In a New Year’s Eve Celebration at the end of 2023, three police officers were injured in a machete attack at Times Square. The officers were in a stable condition following the attack, which was reportedly unprovoked. The suspect, a 19-year-old man, was also treated for injuries after the incident. Mayor Eric Adams praised the professionalism of the officers who responded at the scene.

Earlier in May 2024, a repeat offender stabbed a tourist near Times Square in a random assault. Video footage of the incident showed a pedestrian wielding a weapon before assaulting a woman. Police arrived after a couple of minutes to disarm and arrest the suspect.

The weapon used in the latest incident has not been recovered, and law enforcement hope the victim will identify the three suspects. Investigators have suggested to reporters that the attack may have resulted from a turf dispute between the suspected scammers. One suspect reportedly wore blue jeans and a black shirt, another wore blue jeans and a gray hoodie and a third was reportedly wearing a Wu-Tang Clan hoodie.
