(DailyAnswer.org) – John Deaton, a Marine veteran and lawyer, won the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts. He will now face Elizabeth Warren, the long-time Democrat senator, in the November election.
Deaton, a personal injury lawyer and supporter of cryptocurrency, recently moved to Massachusetts from Rhode Island. He competed against two other Republicans: Ian Cain, a Quincy city council member who is both Black and openly gay, and Bob Antonellis, an engineer from Medford. Deaton, now 56, hasn’t said if he supports Donald Trump for president. Antonellis was the only one who openly supported Trump in this race.
Deaton’s campaign was far better funded than his competitors. He loaned his own campaign $1 million, giving him a huge advantage in spending. Cain, by comparison, only had around $22,000 left by the end of June, while Deaton had nearly $1 million.
Deaton often talks about his difficult upbringing in a poor Detroit neighborhood. He shares stories of witnessing violent crime firsthand, like when his mother was stabbed by a thief. In high school, he once had a gun shoved in his mouth. Despite these hardships, Deaton says he worked hard to escape poverty, eventually going to college and law school. He later joined the Marines and served as a special assistant U.S. attorney in Arizona, where he spent seven years fighting drug cartels.
For the past two decades, Deaton has been a lawyer for injured workers, often fighting against large corporations and insurance companies.
Now, he’s focused on stopping what he calls the “failed policies” of Elizabeth Warren. He blames her and other career politicians for problems related to immigration, calling Massachusetts a “border state” in one of his campaign videos. He argues that Warren is more interested in her national image than helping local communities.
Warren, a Democrat who first ran for Senate in 2012, is expected to have a strong showing in November. However, Deaton is determined to make it a competitive race.
