Ambassador Nikki Haley and former CIA Director and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo—will not be part of his upcoming team. The announcement was made through Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social. In his post, Trump wrote:
“I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation. I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Haley responded graciously, expressing her support for Trump’s leadership:
“I was proud to work with President Trump defending America at the United Nations. I wish him, and all who serve, great success in moving us forward to a stronger, safer America over the next four years.”
Both Haley and Pompeo had been floated as potential members of the new administration, but their exclusion isn’t entirely unexpected. Haley, who ran against Trump in the 2024 Republican primaries, became a favorite among Republicans who prefer a break from Trump’s style of politics. Meanwhile, Pompeo, once a key figure in Trump’s first term, had faced mounting opposition from Trump supporters. A recent Fox News report suggested Pompeo might have been considered for a role, potentially leading the Department of Defense. However, many in Trump’s camp expressed frustration with the idea. At the time, Pompeo said Trump’s actions were “inconsistent with protecting America’s soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines.”
