Nikki Haley Wasted $76M on Failed Campaigns

(DailyAnswer.org) – Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has squandered $76.4 million on unsuccessful campaigns to defeat former president Donald Trump in the first three Republican contests. The results of the Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina primaries have shown how much grassroots support Trump still has throughout the country. As the amount spent on Haley’s failed campaigns raises concerns about the amount that could have been invested in beating President Joe Biden, she has said she will not drop out of the race until Super Tuesday, which falls on March 5.

Haley has spent significantly more than Trump in the primary campaign; she spent $8.4 million in South Carolina only to lose by a significant margin to Trump, largely due to his support among blue-collar workers. In Iowa, Haley spent $37 million on her primary campaign, the most spent by any candidate in the state. By late January 2024, Haley and her super PAC only had $15 million cash left for campaigning, Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy had dropped out of the race, and Trump was leading by no fewer than 30 points in all states outside of New Hampshire.

After losing to Trump in her home state of South Carolina, Haley vowed to keep fighting at a time when most Americans do not approve of either Biden or Trump. The former governor of the state played down results and argued that 40% was no small minority. After Trump tried to relate his own legal battles to those of black voters in South Carolina and suggested that he, like them, was being discriminated against and persecuted, Haley called the comments disgusting and a large warning sign.

Democratic billionaire donor Reid Hoffman, who co-founded LinkedIn, has halted donations to PACs supporting Haley. Hoffman said that investment was made when she stood a chance of winning and that he would need to see more evidence to be convinced to donate more money to her campaign at this stage. Haley claimed that there was “zero concern” about her political future and promised she would not “kiss the ring” easily.
