(DailyAnswer.org) – House Oversight Committee Chairman and Kentucky Representative James Comer has sent a letter to Dr Kevin O’ Connor, the White House’s physician, demanding that he appear before Congress as questions mount regarding President Joe Biden’s mental fitness. Comer also revealed that the doctor has links to the business activities of the Biden family, and called on him to answer questions on the “declining mental state” of the 81-year-old president.
Biden appointed O’Connor, a retired US Army colonel and his longtime physician, in 2021 after he fired Dr Sean Conley, following claims that the latter misled the public about former President Trump’s condition after contracting COVID-19. Reports surfaced of Trump receiving supplemental oxygen in addition to experiencing other side effects caused by the virus. Coley was accused of downplaying Trump’s symptoms.
James Biden, the president’s brother, testified in the impeachment inquiry, and Republicans have accused both James and Joe Biden of lying in their separate meetings with the committee in February. The White House denied claims made by Republicans that the family exploited the Biden name and Joe’s political position for financial gain, calling the accusations “baseless innuendo”.
O’Connor has dismissed concerns about Biden’s mental wellbeing and suggestions that the president might have Parkinson’s disease. The doctor stated in a memo relayed by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre that Dr Kevin Carnard visited the White House clinic regarding Biden’s February 2024 examination. O’Connor explained that the neurological specialist had conducted a very thorough neurological assessment in February, and that his following visits to the White House fell under his “duties”.
Comer aims to ascertain whether O’Connor’s work with the president’s family using the Americore company has influenced his medical assessments. The Republican seeks to ask the doctor about his work with the Bidens and whether O’Connor can legitimately claim to provide independent and accurate assessments of the president’s mental fitness. Comer highlighted Biden’s “concerning” performance in his televised debate with Trump on June 27, which has prompted increasing concerns about the president’s health and viability as a presidential candidate.
