(DailyAnswer.org) – Rodeo star Spencer Wright’s son has woken having previously been declared brain dead after a fall into the Utah river.
Levi, 3, lifted his head and opened his eyes on May 23, two days after he fell into the river on his toy tractor and ended up in critical condition. The news has given the saddle bronc champion and his family some newfound hope. The boy’s mother Kallie Wright posted an update and wrote that she was “shook”, saying how excited she was and how “tough” her baby was. Mindy Clark, a family friend, who has been posting updates on social media about Levi since he entered Salt Lake City’s Primary Children’s Hospital, said that a nurse was in the room telling the boy how much he loved excavators shortly before he regained consciousness.
Spencer has also asked fans for donations to help the boy in the bed next to his son, 3-year-old Taysen Baum, who has sepsis that was caused by a rare form of meningitis. According to doctors, the infection resulted in brain injury, blood clots and strokes. Following the family’s glimmer of hope, Kallie said the hardest part has yet to come as the 3-year-old is still fighting for his life. After the mother dived into the water to save her son and rushed him to hospital, doctors managed to restore his heartbeat. They told the family, however, that the boy would not survive due to the severity of his brain damage.
In her update on May 26, Kallie described the family’s doctor as “outstanding” and expressed her gratitude for him giving them the “gift of time”. She revealed the dilemma the family now faced of waiting for God to provide a “miracle” or research their options to decide what Levi would want and what his future needs would be following the brain injury. She said they were exploring the therapy options available to them to get as much professional insight as possible.
In another update, Clark recognized the support that the family had received, stating that they were “unbelievably humbled” by the prayers and love sent to them since the incident. An MRI scan gave a poor prognosis for the boy, and the family clarified that Levi was not yet fully “coherent” or able to speak. ProRodeo chief executive Tom Glause said he continued to keep the family in his prayers and thoughts.
