(DailyAnswer.org) – Canadian law enforcement recommended that an 85-year-old man be charged after he allegedly drove towards teenagers who had played a doorbell prank on him in February. Surveillance camera footage showed the resident of Abbotsford, British Columbia accelerating towards the group of three teenagers before allegedly ramming into two of them off-camera.
The video footage shared in a news report shows the man chasing the teenagers down the street in his vehicle. The two struck by the car were reportedly treated for minor injuries after the incident on Valentine’s Day. Constable Art Stele of the Abbotsford Police Department acknowledged that the teenagers apparently played some sort of “Nikky Nikky Nine Doors” prank but called the man’s behavior an “overreaction” that shocked several in the community.
Neighbors expressed frustration that the recommendation of charges to Crown Counsel was such a slow process despite the video evidence of the incident. Stele explained that the police department was not intentionally taking its time, and stressed the need to conduct a full investigation to rule out the possibility of a vehicle malfunction.
The constable said the department needed to assess all data linked to the man’s SUV before recommending charges. The two charges now being considered by Abbotsford police are one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle and another of assault. Police clarified that the man’s vehicle had been seized and that his driving license had been suspended.
In July 2023 a man in California was sentenced to life in prison after he drove his car into a group of six teenagers who had pulled a doorbell prank, three of whom were killed in the incident in April 2023. When the group drove off after ringing the doorbell of Anurag Chandra, he pursued them in his car before ramming the group’s car, which then veered off the road and crashed into a tree. Chandra fled the scene and was convicted of first-degree murder and attempted murder.
