Tragedy at Water Park: 12-Year-Old Boy Dies

(DailyAnswer.org) – An 11-year-old boy has experienced a medical emergency at a water park in California and died. Local authorities and fire officials responded to the incident at the Wild Rivers water park in Irvine in the afternoon on June 22. According to the Irvine Police Department, law enforcement responded to reports of a child needing medical assistance.

The incident was not water-related and occurred outside of the pool, according to reports. The name of the boy and the official cause of death have not been released. Emergency services responded quickly and took him to a nearby hospital, where he passed away. The park released a statement claiming the boy was 12, but the boy’s mother corrected the reports and stated he was 11 years old.

According to Sergeant Karie Davies, the Irvine Police Department’s spokeswoman, the incident is not crime-related. Davies stated that the coroner’s office will reach a verdict on the cause of death. The police department has not given reporters any further details relating to the incident.

The Wild Rivers water park released a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, that said the team’s hearts went out to the family and friends of the boy in a trying time. They asked people to keep the boy’s loved ones in their prayers and thoughts. Wild Rivers calls itself the state’s “newest water park, and has multiple sliders and pools. The water park reopened in 2022 after it closed in 2011 and moved from its original location at the former Lion Country Safari site.

The boy’s death comes after a previous tragedy at Discovery Cove in Orlando in May. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, 13-year-old Anna Beaumont died in hospital having been taken there in critical condition after she was found unresponsive at a pool. Beaumont’s family called her a “beautiful soul” and thanked emergency services and hospital staff for attempting to save the girl. The family asked for privacy following the girl’s death.
