(DailyAnswer.org) – At a rally in Arizona on Thursday, former President Donald Trump didn’t hold back, slamming President Joe Biden for saying, “We gotta lock him up,” in reference to Trump. With the 2024 election just around the corner, Trump is gearing up for a showdown not against Biden directly, but against his vice president, Kamala Harris.
“He blew it,” Trump said with a grin, clearly enjoying himself. “He said, ‘Lock him up.’ He’s not allowed to say that! What a stupid guy. Such a stupid fool.”
Biden’s remark came earlier this week while speaking in New Hampshire. He mentioned Trump’s plan to reduce the Department of Education before diving into the ongoing federal case against Trump for alleged interference in the 2020 election. It was during this speech that Biden made the now-infamous comment.
“If I’d said something like this five years ago, you’d lock me up,” Biden told the audience, laughing. “We gotta lock him up—politically lock him up,” he added, trying to clarify his words, though perhaps too late.
The White House has since gone into damage control. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Wednesday that Biden didn’t mean Trump should be physically imprisoned but that he was calling for Trump’s defeat at the ballot box. However, the clarification didn’t stop Trump’s legal team from seizing the moment. They’ve already filed a motion to dismiss the 2020 election interference case, led by special counsel Jack Smith, pointing to Biden’s comment as proof of bias.
The situation is a bit ironic. Back in 2016, Trump supporters famously chanted “lock her up” about Hillary Clinton. The same chant made a return during Trump’s 2020 run, aimed this time at Biden. Now, Biden seems to have turned the tables by using similar language while Trump is under federal investigation.
At a campaign stop in Georgia, Trump didn’t miss the chance to frame Biden’s words as proof of election meddling. “I’ve been telling you—this is election interference,” Trump declared. “It’s all it is. He said, ‘We gotta lock him up.’ This is illegal.”
With tensions high, both sides are gearing up for what looks to be another wild election season.
