(DailyAnswer.org) – President-elect Donald Trump has announced Chris Wright as his pick for Secretary of Energy. Wright, the founder and CEO of Liberty Energy, is set to lead the Department of Energy in Trump’s upcoming administration. The announcement, made Saturday, highlighted Wright’s extensive background in the energy sector.
In a statement, Trump said, “Chris Wright has been a leader in energy innovation and entrepreneurship. He played a major role in launching the American Shale Revolution, which helped secure our energy independence and reshaped global energy markets.” Trump also noted Wright’s work across multiple energy fields, including nuclear, solar, geothermal, and oil and gas.
Wright expressed his gratitude on social media, writing, “I am honored to serve as U.S. Secretary of Energy. Energy is the foundation of modern life, and I am committed to making it more affordable, reliable, and secure for all Americans. Thank you, @realDonaldTrump, for this opportunity.”
A graduate of MIT with a degree in mechanical engineering, Wright also pursued advanced studies in electrical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. According to Liberty Energy’s website, he describes himself as a “tech nerd turned entrepreneur” who is passionate about improving lives through better access to energy.
Trump’s decision to appoint Wright comes as no surprise, given the president-elect’s focus on energy independence during his campaign. He has vowed to roll back restrictions on oil and gas production, expand fracking, and remove pauses on liquefied natural gas exports. Trump has also pledged to exit the Paris climate agreement again and loosen emission standards.
During a recent campaign event in Pennsylvania, Trump criticized the Biden administration for its energy policies. “They destroyed your coal jobs, attacked oil and gas, and handed manufacturing over to foreign countries,” he said. Trump’s push for energy independence has been a cornerstone of his platform.
Wright’s nomination signals a fast pace for Trump’s Cabinet selections this term. Compared to his first administration, Trump has been quicker to name key officials, a move his team says reflects his commitment to putting “America first.” Alongside Wright, Trump plans to name an “energy czar” to cut back Biden-era regulations, emphasizing his pro-energy agenda.
