(DailyAnswer.org) – Former President Donald Trump has ramped up his attacks on Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and accused him of being a “wasted protest vote” and a Democratic “plant”.
Trump made the claims on his Truth Social platform on April 26, showing a shift in his views on the Independent presidential candidate. The former president said earlier in April that liberals should vote for Kennedy, calling him a better man than Biden and the most radically left-wing candidate. Trump’s latest comments were considerably more hostile, attacking Kennedy for “nasty” environmental policies and saying that he would rather be governed by incumbent President Joe Biden than experience a rapid “collapse” under Kennedy.
The Republican presidential candidate slated Kennedy for his controversial position on vaccines and the pharmaceutical industry, calling it “fake” along with the rest of his campaign. Trump’s insinuation that the Democrats back Kennedy echoes the opposite claim made by the Democratic party. In February the Democratic National Committee launched a complaint suggesting that the American Values 2024 Super PAC linked to Kennedy’s campaign was being propped up by Trump donors.
Kennedy, whose campaign has focused on “healing” America and moving away from increasingly divisive partisan politics, has avoided overly personal attacks on the two leading party candidates. Following Trump’s accusations, Kennedy dismissed the former president’s rant as “barely coherent”, referring to Trump as a “frightened man” whose vitriolic comments on Truth Social made him come across as “unhinged”.
The comments by both the Democrats and Republicans highlight the mounting concern among both parties over Kennedy acting as a spoiler candidate. Kennedy has recently demanded that Biden step down as a candidate if he cannot demonstrate that he can compete with Trump. The pledge proposed by Kennedy would involve the Independent and the Democrats dividing the costs of a poll to determine which candidate stands a better chance against Trump.
Kennedy’s focus on green issues was not the only worry highlighted in Trump’s posts. The former president slated him over his stances on gun control and taxing the wealthy. He also accused Kennedy of supporting “open borders” and weak border security, even though the Independent argued that Biden should have shut the country’s borders during the migration crisis. Several members of the Kennedy family have sided with Biden over Kennedy Jr., who recently stated that Trump approached him as a potential vice presidential candidate, a claim denied by Trump’s campaign.
