(DailyAnswer.org) – A Florida woman is facing serious charges after a troubling hit-and-run incident involving a teenager on a scooter.
Sarah Wright, 37, was arrested last Thursday after authorities say she hit a 16-year-old boy with her truck, tried to cover her license plate, and sped away from the scene. She has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and driving with a suspended license.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. at the corner of Gage Avenue and Noah Street in Deltona, Florida, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. The teenager, a student at Pine Ridge High School, was riding his scooter home and using the crosswalk when he was hit by a black Chevrolet Silverado.
The impact left the boy with a serious cut on the back of his head and an injured arm, but he stayed alert and conscious. A witness, who had been checking her mailbox nearby, said she heard the crash and ran to see what happened. She reported that Wright got out of her truck briefly to check on the boy. Instead of staying to help, Wright returned to her truck, covered her license plate with paper and tape, and drove off.
However, the witness was able to catch the first character on the license plate, which proved to be a key detail. Additionally, a neighborhood Ring camera captured video of the truck as it left the scene. The boy and the witness provided authorities with a detailed description of the truck and driver, which helped law enforcement track down the suspect.
Using a License Plate Reader camera, officials located Wright’s vehicle within minutes. She was found in Flagler County and arrested with the help of the Florida Highway Patrol and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. Wright was booked into the Flagler County Jail with a bond set at $3,500.
The teenage victim required staples for his head wound and treatment for his arm injury but is expected to recover fully. The incident serves as a reminder of the consequences of reckless driving and the importance of accountability on the road.
