WWE Star John Cena Announces 2025 Retirement

(DailyAnswer.org) – Professional WWE wrestler John Cena has announced that he will retire from wrestling after his final Wrestlemania match in Las Vegas in 2025. Cena, 47, announced his plans when giving a speech to a crowd in Toronto. The wrestler said there will be a farewell tour before he quits for good.

Cena commented on Canadian fans in the speech, saying that Canadians always showed up. The wrestler branched out into acting 18 years ago, and starred in the Fast and Furious franchise, the Suicide Squad and the 2023 blockbuster Barbie. It is unclear whether Cena will have future roles in the DC and Fast and the Furious franchises once his retirement from wrestling gives him more time to commit to film roles.

The wrestler is known for his charity work as the celebrity most requested by Make-a-Wish, a nonprofit that focuses on fulfilling seriously ill children’s wishes. Cena granted his first wish for the organization in 2002, and has entered the Guinness World Records for granding the most wishes for the charity. By July 2022, he had granted 650 wishes. The wrestler is known for wearing championship belts during the visits to the children.

Cena is famous for his “Doctor of Thuganomics” character, which entered the WWE scene in the early 2000s. The rapper persona soon became a fan favorite, and saw Cena don a backwards hat and gold chains as he engaged his opponents in rap battles.

The wrestler stated in a news conference after the speech in Toronto he is at his “end” physically. He added that he feels no need to distance himself from wrestling, indicating plans to remain as a member of the WWE family in some capacity. The wrestler thanked the crowd for allowing him to play in the house that they built.

Cena is widely recognized as one of the most iconic professional wrestlers in WWE history. He achieved the status of world champion 16 times since he first joined WWE in 2001.
