Mom Accused Of Attacking School Bus Driver

(DailyAnswer.org) – A 27-year-old mother has been arrested in connection with an incident on April 11 in Mesa, Arizona, in which the suspect allegedly boarded a school bus before confronting and then assaulting the 64-year-old driver.

Hermenegilda Marquez asked the bus driver if she was “talkin’ ****” to her daughter before repeatedly punching her and dragging the driver towards her hair toward the exit of the bus. Marquez was arrested on April 17 by police and accused of committing the felony of aggravated assault on a school employee. Investigators stated that the defendant “showed no emotion” as she was shown surveillance camera footage of the incident and told she would be charged with the felony.

Marquez invoked her right to counsel and declined to be interviewed by investigators.

Authorities responded to reports of a possible assault on a school bus driver for Mesa Public Schools. Police found the unidentified driver with minor injuries. Even though the attack happened after children were dropped off at the bus stop, 11 children witnessed the attack. The victim, a substitute driver, claimed that she did not know either the mother or her child.

The driver repeatedly told the mother to get off the bus when she got aggressive. Two other parents confronted the driver, saying she was dropping the children off at the wrong stop and that this was not the first time they had complained. According to court documents, the suspect slapped the victim before closing her fists and pounding her repeatedly with both hands. A man identified as the boyfriend of Marquez tried to pull her away from the victim. Responding officers reported that the victim was crying and visibly upset when they arrived at the scene.

The driver’s seat belt stopped her from being fully dragged away by the hair, and she used a radio to call for help as the suspect drove off. The victim claimed that her pacemaker started to shock her after the attack and that she needed medical attention for multiple injuries. Marquez was on unsupervised probation relating to a domestic violence assault conviction, for which she was paying fines and taking classes.

Mesa School District officials said that safety is a main priority at Mesa Public Schools and that they trust the Mesa Police to reach a resolution in the investigation that is underway.
